Collection: ABC Dry Chemical Fire Extinguishers

ABC dry chemical is the one agent rated for all three common fire classes, so a single cylinder covers ordinary combustibles, flammable liquids, and energized electrical equipment. That is why it is the default choice for offices, warehouses, schools, and mixed-occupancy buildings. We stock Buckeye ABC units in three wall-hook sizes, made in Kings Mountain, North Carolina.

Picking a size

Size is set by the hazard and by how far someone has to walk to reach an extinguisher. NFPA 10 sets the travel-distance and placement rules that decide how many units a floor needs and what rating each one carries.

All three are listed under ANSI/UL 299, the standard for dry chemical extinguishers.

Mounting and cabinets

Each unit ships with a wall hook. Where the extinguisher would stick out into a corridor or take abuse, a cabinet is the usual answer. See mounting height and clearance requirements, or browse fire extinguisher cabinets sized to match.

Do these meet DOT requirements for commercial vehicles?

Yes. All three sizes carry a UL rating that satisfies DOT 49 CFR 393.95 for commercial motor vehicles, including the 10 B:C minimum for placarded hazmat loads. For vehicle use you will usually want a bracket rather than the wall hook.

When is ABC the wrong choice?

The monoammonium phosphate powder is corrosive and leaves a residue that keeps damaging electronics after the fire is out, so server rooms and equipment closets are better served by a clean agent.
