Collection: Lockout Tagout

Lockout tagout devices, tags, padlock stations, and cabinets for controlling hazardous energy during servicing and maintenance. Everything here supports an employer's written energy-control program under OSHA 29 CFR 1910.147, which requires lockout devices that are standardized, durable, substantial, and identifiable. The core of the collection is the USA-made ZING RecycLockout line, molded from recycled plastic with UL Environmental Claim Validation of the recycled content, alongside Brady energy-source tags.

Match the device to the isolation point

A written LOTO procedure names specific energy-isolating devices, and the hardware has to fit each one. This is the fastest way to map what you need:

Isolation point Device Typical use
Cord and plug Plug lockout Cord-connected machines, portable equipment, appliances under repair
Circuit breaker Breaker lockout Panel isolation for fixed equipment, single- and double-pole breakers
Gate valve Gate-valve lockout Water, steam, air, and process lines isolated at the handwheel
Wall switch Wall-switch lockout Switch-controlled fans, lights, disposals, small fixed equipment
Multiple or irregular points Cable lockout One cable secures several isolation points or odd-shaped valves at once

Lockout tagout tags

Tags warn against re-energizing and identify who applied the device. 1910.147 requires a legend that warns against operation, wording such as DO NOT OPERATE, plus the identity of the employee who applied it. DANGER Do Not Operate and Out of Service tags cover energy isolation; inspection-record tags for fire extinguishers, AEDs, and eyewash stations use the same durable tag stock to document routine checks.

Stations, cabinets, and group lockout

Lockout stations keep devices, tags, and padlocks visible at the work area instead of scattered across toolboxes. Wall stations run from compact six-padlock boards to 56-padlock stations for large maintenance crews, with cabinets and document cases for procedure paperwork. When several trades service the same machine, each worker still applies a personal lock: our data center lockout tagout procedures guide walks through a group lockout with contractor crews step by step.

What lockout devices does OSHA require?

1910.147(c)(5) requires employers to provide devices that are standardized by color, shape, or size, durable enough for the environment, substantial enough to prevent removal without undue force, and identifiable to the worker who applied them. Which device you need depends on the energy-isolating hardware on the machine. The full requirements are on our OSHA 1910.147 reference page.

Do lockout tags need specific wording?

Tags must warn against hazardous conditions with a legend such as DO NOT OPERATE and must identify the employee who applied the device. The standard does not mandate one exact phrase, but DANGER Do Not Operate is the common format and the one AHJs and auditors expect to see.

Are these lockout devices made in the USA?

The ZING Green Safety Products RecycLockout devices and Eco Safety Tags stocked here are made in the USA from recycled materials. Each product listing states its country of origin, so you can verify per item.

Does a lockout device make my machine OSHA compliant?

No. Devices and tags support a written energy-control program: machine-specific procedures, training, and annual inspections are what 1910.147 actually audits. Electrical work adds NFPA 70E arc-flash and shock protection on top of the deenergization workflow.
