Purple K is the agent of choice for facilities handling flammable liquids in volume — petroleum refineries, aviation refueling, marine engine rooms, bulk fuel terminals, racing pit operations. By weight it's roughly twice as effective as ABC on hydrocarbon fires, which is why a 50 lb wheeled PK unit clears a much larger B-class fire than the same weight of ABC. Buckeye Fire Equipment makes this stored-pressure model rated 160-B:C, with 30+ seconds of discharge and effective range out to 25 feet. Listed to the ANSI/UL 299 dry chemical performance standard and tested under UL 711 fire-test methodology.

Choose PK wheeled over ABC wheeled when the fuel mix is overwhelmingly flammable liquids and the Class A load is negligible. PK has no A rating — it won't suppress wood, paper, or fabric fires. For mixed-hazard occupancies, pair PK wheeled units near fuel-handling zones with ABC wheeled units in adjacent Class A areas, or step up to a larger ABC capacity if covering both classes with one unit. Facilities storing flammable liquids in volume should reference OSHA 29 CFR §1910.106 flammable liquid storage requirements and the NFPA 30 flammable and combustible liquids code for tank, room, and cabinet placement adjacent to extinguisher locations.

Common installs are airport refueling, fuel farms, oil-and-gas facilities, marine vessels, racing facilities, and chemical storage. Operating temperature range of -65°F to +120°F — wide enough for outdoor and cold-environment use where wet chemical or foam agents freeze. Fuel-handling operations should pair extinguishers with appropriate fuel and hazmat spill response materials, and commercial vehicles transporting placardable hazmat loads must meet DOT vehicle fire extinguisher requirements.

Semi-pneumatic rubber wheels for indoor and outdoor mobility without the puncture risk of air-filled tires. Steel cylinder with baked-on polyester epoxy finish. Plated brass valve, hose with nozzle.
