An exit device is the push bar on the inside of a door. This is the trim, the hardware on the outside face of that same door. It mounts through the door and works the device's latch, so it is what decides whether anyone can get back in.
What this one does
Cover plate. Nobody gets in from outside. This is what makes a door exit only.
Detex uses the BHMA function descriptions, and prints this one as: Exit only, no trim or blank escutcheon.
