An exit device is the push bar on the inside of a door. This is the trim, the hardware on the outside face of that same door. It mounts through the door and works the device's latch, so it is what decides whether anyone can get back in.
What this one does
Lever active by key, locked when the key is removed. The lever works while the key is in it and locks again when the key comes out. Vandal resistant escutcheon.
Detex uses the BHMA function descriptions, and prints this one as: Entrance by knob or lever only when released by key. Key removable only when locked.

Fitting it
Detex designs the trim and the device mounting plate so the function can be changed by swapping the outside trim alone, without taking the exit device off the door. Confirm the device series and the door's handing before ordering.
