The EAX-500MC65 is a surface-mounted battery door alarm that monitors unauthorized use of emergency exits and restricted access doors. Detex designed this self-contained unit for installations where hard-wired alarm systems are not practical or cost-effective. The 100dB piezo alarm sounds when someone attempts an unauthorized exit, providing immediate notification to facility staff and deterring improper door use.
The alarm uses an intelligent circuit that automatically senses external magnet location and sets proper door handing during installation. The tapered cover design allows mounting on narrow stile doors where space is limited. A control key is required to silence the alarm once activated, preventing unauthorized reset. The tamper-resistant housing protects internal components from interference.
This is the EAX-500 supplied with a mortise cylinder. Like the rest of the series it is a door alarm, not exit hardware: It signals that a door was opened and does not latch, lock or release the opening, so it is specified alongside the exit device rather than in place of one. Installation flexibility makes it suitable for doors where a wired alarm system would be impractical. Background on the rules that govern the opening itself: IBC Chapter 10 means of egress and NFPA 101.
